Alternative to Match and Lookup

Is there a function other than MATCH or LOOKUP function that works correctly in both design mode and preview mode? I have noticed that both functions operate backwards in design mode, but work correctly in preview mode.

I need both design mode and preview mode to show the same thing for a result.
