ERP - installing Support Packages - How to handle Deltas

HI Experts,

I'm aware that my issue was subject to many threads here, but I'm still having doubts:

- Is loading deltas to BW a prerequisite for upgrade or just recoomended to be on the safe side?

- Do I have to load all kinds of deltas or it is sufficient to deal with those from LO-Cockpit?

(I was told only LO is affected, just can't beleive it)

Before you advice to fetch all deltas, please also consider:

Our system landscape covers 16 logical system with many deltas for each and time is short for

loading data to BW while the upgrade activities.

Thank you in advance for help!

Regards

Joe

PS: We also upgrade system to EHP4

    Hi,

For LO DS's you will have to stop the delta.

For others you will have to check teh extract structure and the indexes also.

During an upgrade it is possible fo rthe extract structuress to change and the table indexes are also deleted. For eg: the cost centres extractirs use 2 different indexes for delat and full upload and during upgrade these 2 indexes are deleted.

    Regards.

    Hi,

I mean, its only relevant for LO datasources - Because, SAP changed the structures. All other datasource work with a timestamp in the original database tables.

Therefore it is a good idea, when SAP write it in the notes for the support packages.

      Hi ,

Even in case of non LO datasources, extract structures can be changed . So if at the time of upgrade the delta queue is not empty , there is every chance that after the upgrade you will not be able to pull the data . In that case you have to delete the delta and do re initialization again .

Hi Sven , please correct me here if am wrong .

    Hi,

To ensure a proper upgrade without a potential loss of data, we decided to use the option for cowards,

i-e. decided to load all the deltas.

So we collected LO-Deltas and then put all the deltas to BW, calling all Infopackages twice to empty the queues,

Nevertheless we faced the strange situation, that some entries in SMQ1 and RSA7 were not set to zero and couldn't

resolve this by requesting deltas one more time. But up to now it doesn't matter.

To keep it short, upgrade and load of deltas were successful.

However it would be still interesting to know, what is really necessary regarding deltas.

So I don't close this threat now, hoping to get some more information

    Thanks and Regards

    Joe
