Need New GL with Material Ledger?

We are running ECC6 with the Classic GL and PCA turned on. A request has come in to install the Material Ledger for one of the countries on our SAP Roadmap. It is my understanding that it is required to put in the New GL before the Material Ledger. Is this correct?

Dear Tim,

You can put ML before New GL.

When NGL was released several companies already had all modules running and even then it was perfectly possible its activation and installation

Thank you. Guess my concern is still that we have upgraded to ECC6 within the last year and have not yet activated the New GL. My understanding is that it would be best practice to enable the New GL before we looked at turning on the Material Ledger. Would turning on Material ledger in ECC with Classic GL cause issue down the road when we do move to the New GL? Anyone out there that has done this. Any risks to consider?

Dear tim,

as I said it's OK to to configure the NGL at any time, but I recommend before any module cost controlling, that is The NGL uses cost centers and profit centers.

When the NGL is activated, it starts to use new objects and data tables for the reconciliation of cost and document split, so that your case does not matter in relation to ML. Cost Control is important.
