Several instances on one database?

Dear All,

just a theoretical question - if I install several SAP instances on one machine on Oracle should I create only one database for all instances or maybe better one database per one instance?

thanks

You can go either way. Each of them have pros and cons.

Here is a good read for you:

Hope this helps.

Thank you for answers. Could you tell me also how does it look with size on disk? For example if I have three instances on one databases then oracle directory is about 800GB. If I would have the same instances but in separate bases, it will also be about 800GB or more?

Cannot answer that as I do not have that setup running. I am sure someone on the forum might be able to answer that.

Thanks,

Hi Skiba,

We have many consolidated systems, running over a physical server. They are running on one database per one instance which means that each SAP system should have has its own database installation. Please note that, if it is a productive environment, you should perform a sizing very carefully, for your system landscape.
