Excel column width truncating to 256 characters

I'm trying to create an excel spreadheet using FM XXL_FULL_API. One of the fields in my table is long text that can be up to 1000 characters long. The spreadsheet creates OK but the long text is truncated at 256 charcaters. There are some old posts around that say this is a restriction in Excel 2003 but I don't think this applies anymore. I'm using 2007 and you can certainly type more than 256 characters in a cell. Does anybody know how I can overcome this truncation when using XXL_FULL_API ?

Many thanks

I'd recommend setting a breakpoint in function module XXL_FULL_API and watching what it does. Even though it appears that the 256 limitation is removed, there are still places in the code where 256 column width appears to be enforced. This might apply in your situation.
