    Hi, Welcome to BOBJ!

There's no quick answer to those questions. For you to learn these things you'll need to read the manuals, which are a great source of help.

All manuals can be found here: http://help.sap.com/content/bobj/bobj/index.htm

Specifically, the universe design manual is here: http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31SP3/en/xi31_sp3_designer_en.pdf

And the Web Intelligence (called 'Webi') manual is here: http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexir31SP3/en/xi31_sp3_webi_java_en.pdf

    But to answer your questions:

A universe is used so that business users can access the data in a database, without needing any knowledge of how the database is structured. It is an 'abstraction' layer that sits between the Business Objects reporting tools and the database. It is a very important part of Business Objects.

Webi Intelligence is a reporting tool. A user of this tool will drag objects onto a page to create reports. The objects they drag are defined in a universe, and represent columns from various tables in the underlying data source.

    Have fun!
