When I go to delete the gateway service it says:

Service cannot be deleted, delete ICF Node first

When I go to delete the ICF node it says:

ICF node 'ZAPMEXTERNALDATA' could not be deleted.

Reason: 'Node is not in original system'

Issue here is that you are not deleting the service in the system where it was developed.

You need to identify the server where it was originally developed, then delete it there and tranasport the change to the current system.

Was it a mistake to transport the service? I created two packages, one for the backend business logic, and one for the gateway ( entity sets, etc ). I created transports for both packages and then imported those into another system. Is the service something that should not be transported between systems? When I created my transport for the package I just transported everything ( I believe I used "copies of objects" ).

Is there any way to delete it without deleting it in the original system and transporting it? What if I lose access to the original system? What if it has already been deleted in the original system?

There is always a way. :)

You have to make the system believe that this is the 'original system'.

For that edit the field SRCSYSTEM in table TADIR.

Thanks. I ended up learning how to debug and set a breakpoint when the message was raised.

This was how I found out SAP raises the same error message for two different objects that originated in RS8.

https://blogs.sap.com/2013/11/15/six-kinds-of-debugging-tips-to-find-the-source-code-where-the-message-is-raised/

I then used SE03 to change the object directory entries for the IWSG and IWOM item that were causing the problem. I changed the system on these entries.

Is using SE03 to edit the object directory entries any different than just changing SRCSYSTEM on TADIR for the select objects via SQL?
