SAP CPS Redwood Limitations in comparision to other Job Management products

Former Member

CPS Redwood definitely falls under the top Job management and schedulers in market but other products are giving it tough competition.
Please help me in listing those limitations of Redwood and features due which it lacks when compared to other products.

Hi,

I can at least give you some of the capabilities of CPS so you can make your own comparisons:

  1. Solution Manager integration - Detect and respond to SAP alerts (XAL/XMW). Sol Man can run jobs through CPS, (no Cross
SAP scheduling with Free of Charge version). Allows change management and job documentation integration. System wide monitoring for one user (read only with Free of Charge version). Requires SAP Solution Manager Process Scheduling Adapter.
  2. Basic SAP BI integration - Submit and monitor BI process chains and info packages.
    Visualize parent and child chains.
  3. Read only monitoring of system information - Use platform agent to provide OS level system information.
  4. Platform Agent based load balancing - Uses read only monitoring agent.
  5. SAP BI Process Chain restart - Allow restart of BI process chains from given point within the chain.
  6. SAP Financial Closing cockpit integration - Allows automation of closing processes to be managed by
Closing cockpit users. Requires SAP Financial Closing cockpit from SAP.
  7. Load balancing of SAP jobs - Targets work at lowest usage SAP application servers. Does
not just use ‘round robin’ approach.
  8. Import / Export CPS objects - Migrate workload from dev to test to production.
  9. Platform Agent based load balancing - Uses Redwood monitoring tree to determine where to run workload
(CPU, paging rate etc). Requires more than one Platform Agent.
  10. Automate Business Objects - Integrate BusinessObjects tasks
  11. Manage ABAP jobs - Standard ABAP scheduling using XBP. With the free of charge component any number of SAP systems can be managed, but only within each local system. No cross SAP client, cross SAP system or non-SAP scheduling is possible.
  12. Automate Web Services - Inbound and outbound Web Services integration
  13. Automate Operating System jobs - Requires relevant OS platform agent on each managed server (Windows, Linux, UNIX only).
AS/400, z/OS and OpenVMS not available from SAP.
  14. Manage non-SAP application jobs - Requires suitable interface for application. Some connectors not available from SAP
  15. Manage file events - Detect incoming files and trigger workload.
  16. Manage non-SAP events - Detect and respond to events external to SAP (for example job status change).
  17. Redwood Script - Allows programming using Java.
  18. Reporting - Allows creation of CSV and HTML reports through report definition window.
  19. Send email - Job definition to send an emaildirect from SAP CPS
  20. Send SNMP trap - Job definition to send SNMP trap direct from SAP CPS

Regards
