CR2008: database connector 'crdb_oracle.dll' couldn't be loaded

Hi there

I've had a database connection error - 'crdb_oracle.dll couldn't be loaded' when I tried to update some CR 2008 sp2 report files in window 7 enterprise 64 environment with Oracle instant client 10 (32 bit) and Oracle 10g. (I've also tried switch to use oracle instant client 11(32 bit)/ 11 (64 bit) ). These CR reports files were created in the windows XP with Oracle instant client 10 via the crdb_oracle.dll data source.

I know I can use the ODBC connection instead of crdb_oracle.dll to make these reports working, but the problem is we have an application calling these reports files in the windows 2003 server environment, and this is a production application which I don't want to touch.

Any solution for this issue? Thanks in advance.

    Hi Joseph,

Usually when that message pops up its because CR can't find the Oracle client install.

The reason can be because you have two versions of the client installed, Cr looks in the PATH statement for the Oracle \bin folder. If the order is wrong then CR may try to load the OCI from one version but the dependencies for the other version are in memory so it fails.

To fix this either uninstall both Oracle clients and then reinstall just the one you need or possibly changing the order in the PATH statement may work also.

To confirm CR has the oracle driver search for crdb_oracle.dll, it should be only located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\win32_x86.

    Thank you

    Don

Avoid using the Oracle instant client and try to install the Oracle client using the "Administrator" or the "Runtime" installation type.

I found the solution now, actually CR2008 is compatible with Windows 7 64bit environment, and the problem has no t relation to the version of oracle instant client. Just when setting up the environment Variables for oracle instant client, put them in the user variables group not the system variable group.

    Thank you for your suggestions.
