Questions about BW Archiving

In our BW system we have data modeling with both BW3.5 and BI7.0 version.

Now I'm thinking of BW Archiving.

Could anyone tell me

when we need to do BW Archiving?

And how to do BW Archiving?

How long will it take for BW Archiving?

Will the old data still available for reporting after BW Archiving?

Any advantage and disadvantage for BW Archiving?
