Searching for Detailed info on LDAP

Hello,

I am searching for any info on LDAP. I had to start working in LDAP very soon and i have no idea exactly how it works and why it is required. I had gone through SAP help and few other documents and got an idea about it but still lots of things are unclear.

At my site, my client wants to configure LDAP, their requirement is, after loging in to the OS using directory service, when a user clicks SAP sid icon to login, it validate the user OS id and accordingly take him to start menu.

there are few more requirements. It will be greatfull if some one can provide me links or details about LDAP.

Hi Amit,

look at the HowToGuide "Configure UME for Multiple LDAP Data Sources". There you find information about implementing one or multiple LDAP Servers in the portal. If you want to use SSL, look at the HowToGuide "Configuring SSL Between Portal Server and LDAP Directories". In General, you only have to use the keyword "LDAP" in the SDN Searching Field to get some good documents about configuring LDAP.

In general you have to configure LDAP properties in UM Configuration in the portal. You also have to know

- which type of LDAP you want to use (MS ADS, Novell, etc.)

- if the LDAP has a flat or deep hierachy

- if you want Read-only/ not read only permissions on the LDAP Server(s).

In UM configuration you can also test if the LDAP connection is working.

Hi Amit,

look up at the left side up on the SDN site where the search field is. There you give in the keyword "LDAP" and search in the SDN Content (seeing in the selectbox), then you get the wished results.
