How to change location of Designer Log File?

Former Member

Does anyone know how to change the Data services Designer log location?

Currently it resides under the C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Data Services as \Log.

I would like to move this to D:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Data Services without having to uninstall and reinstall the Designer.

In Australia it is standard corporate practice for Laptops today to come with 2 partitions C:\ for the Program and system files and D:\ for all the volatile data.

Thanks,

you want to change the log file location for job server or all the DS component (i.e change the default log folder )

you can't change the default log folder

one way to acheive this could be to create symbolic link, I don't think its possible to create symbolic links in windows, looks like Windows Vista has some command MKLINK to do that but if you are on other wnidows OS then it amy not be possible

One way you can influence the location of the log files is to execute your job via the job launcher (AL_RWJobLauncher see the DS Advanced Development Guide) . Use the -C option to point to a config file that passes the -l , -w, -z parameters to al_engine.

These al_engine parameters control the trace, monitor and error log file locations.
