TREX API

Need to know if there's anywhere I can get hold of the TREX API.

Also, can core SAP R/3 be using TREX functions in anyway? If yes, how?

    Hi Woon Hui Oh,

    the TREX API is not released for customer use. If you want to use TREX functionality in the portal you have to use the KM indexmanagement layer, which takes over the communication to the TREX. All required interfaces and classes can be found here:

      Hi everyone,

      allow me to clarify one thing.

      The document to which Detlev posted the link is the official SAP documentation for TREX used in ABAP-based solutions.

      This of course means:

      Yes, TREX services quite a few SAP solutions that are not natively coming from the Java, Enterprise Portal, KM world.

      And, yes, TREX has an ABAP API.

      But:

      TREX use is only supported in SAP solutions that deliver this TREX usage in their standard (Besides EP-KM these are e.g. mySAP PLM DMS, CRM Internet Sales, some HCM functionality, etc.).

      The TREX APIs are not released for project development. Unless you can get to them indirectly through a released API, such as the KM API of in SAP NetWeaver.

    Yes, understood that using TREX API will not be supported at the moment. However, this is ok with us for the moment as it's at Proof-of-Concept stage.

    And where can I find the ABAP & Java TREX API?

      In this context:

      There is a new SDN article (link at bottom) by Thilo Brandt that summarizes roughly like this:

      You need:

      - Licenced NetWeaver users

      - Installed WebAS (J2EE), EP, KM and TREX

      - TREX indices created through KM

      Then you can...

      ...Through the WebAS

      ...including user management

      ...access the KM index management service

      ...and through that TREX

      Giving you search functionality over KM indices (including access control) from any custom developed UI that can communicate with the SAP J2EE engine.

      <b>Using the KM Indexmanagement APIs for searching with TREX</b>

      Searching in the SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal is a key feature of the product and is a requirement in most of the customer project scenarios. Search functionality within the Enterprise Portal is exposed through the KM Indexmanagement service which offers a Java API for accessing the search capability in custom developed components.
