Re: MRP for Consumption Based Planning

Dear All,

I am intending to implement CBP with automatic reorder point. Now, that as the MRP type VM ask for the maintenance of forecasting view in the material master where the historical consumption data is being maintained.

My query is related to the MRP run. Like is it that the when the stocks goes below the ROP & SS. procurement proposal are generated. Do the system automatically creates procurement proposals or we need to run MRP for getting these proposals.

Please advice.

Regards,

Vivek

You need to run MRP, because then only the system can verify if the stock level is below reorder point, to automate this you may schedule a Job to run Periodically so that there is no manual Intervention in creation of procurement proposal.

True, some clients do prefer Manual Reorder Point as they do want to have a certain amount of control on the Reorder Point and Safety Stock depending on the nature of the business. So go for MRP Type VB, and let the client set the ROP and SS manually. And schedule a background job for the MRP run which runs frequently, for eg. every night.

In your case you'd also need to run forecasting before running MRP.

Hi Mario,

What you mean by running forecasting before MRP run.

One more thing ,I was evaluating Automatic v/s Manual ROP planning in CBP,And got mixed views in this regards, like for Automatic ROP ,the ROP and SS calculated by SAP would not be alligned to the client,So it was advised that Manaual ROP should be opted.

Please advice.

In VM system needs forecast results to calculate reorder point automatically (and safety stock).

Therefore material forecast must run before, otherwise you get an error in MRP. Look at transactions MP38 or MPBT.

Certainly, manual ROP is simpler solution, and also does not require forecasting. If you can manage with that it is certainly advisable.

you can schedule MRP as background job using MDBT
