How to set Material Lenth via material type

hello:

I check the material type in SPRO but I don't see any field to set material length..

for example: FERT 7 digits length

ROH 12 digits length

I check the help sap ,but I still cann't find any usful example...

any one has some documents or instruction for me?I think my question is about PP fields though It seems my question is related to MM field ..

I would appreciate it very much if you can give detailed instructions...

comment:I just wanna when I create a material (choose material type),it will require me to enter correct part number length .

Hi,

Material number ranges & length of the material number are set in the customising of material type. T-Code MMNR.

For practice, u can define a new material type & define number range with MMNR

can you give me an example?

all the material types are in the same group maintained by MMNR in our company..

but when we create raw material,it require to enter 15 digits number.. finish goods,it requires 7digits

do you mean i can create several group via MMNR and assign each material type to them?can you give me an example?

not sure if there is other way to make it..

Did you define the number ranges in MMNR as per the need you specify above ?

You may use search option to find many threads on this topic to know how to go about it.
