production planning

Hi all,

I am very much new to sap and to this forum also. Current I have received an opportunity to work on implementation project but due to less exp ( specially in SOP ) I am facing lot of problem .my collegue suggested me to take help from this forum and I am seeing that you people are doing a great job.

client is into manufacturing of auto parts and tools

I am in to AS IS phase and there main concern is How to do planning for material (Raw ,consumables etc) man power, cost , capacity requirement and minimum stock level . In their existing process they are considering previous year data ,down loading in to excel sheet and making a report.

They are producing the material considering the order received( export and domestic) ,available stock ,minimum stock level ,machine capacity and then generating a production order.

For export they manufacture only after getting the order.

How I will map this in to SAP and the planning strategy to be used.

Regards

Mona

According to what you mentioned,I think your company is care about inventory level and you have quick manufacture ablity to fulfill customer orders...I think you can use "Make to Order"strategy...

usually we will assign statagy via MRP group :but you can assign it via statagy directly in material master

define stratagy via SPRO

define stratagy group

(option)assign stratagy group to MRP group and maintained it in material master view

Mona,

The solution always must follow the client's requirements. Our opinions and suggestions are irrelevant.

During your documentation process, you must iteratively ask the client questions about his current process. If the client also has an idea of the solution he wishes to use, you include that in your documentation. A nice starting point for questions to ask him can be found by executing SQADB01, and reviewing the F4 help, or just display the contents of table SQADB01T using a table browser such as SE16.

Once you fully understand his requirements, you then use your personal knowledge of the functionality of SAP to determine which solution(s) best meet his requirements. Since you are new to SAP, you will not be able to perform this on your own. You may have to rely on your more senior colleagues, or begin furiously studying the subject matter required to bring you up to speed.

Your best friend in gaining new insights about functionality is SAP online help. Your next best friend is 'Best Practices', which outlines in a step-by-step approach how to implement many common business scenarios, and also outlines common solutions for a few specific industries as well.

The person you refer to as your friend, has pointed you in a very wrong direction.

This forum is not the place where you can develop / build the solution for your implementation project. It's not just you, but there are many more, who think they can do an implementation by posting queries here.

I believe the primary goal of this forum is to help users on very specific issues & not to do implementations (Moderators correct me if am wrong on this).

Now coming to your very specific query. The first person you should approach is your Lead Consultant with whom you should prepare all documentation & detail out the solution.

If there is no Lead Consultant who can guide you in your project, then approach your project manager to get a senior consultant in your project.

Remember the solutions which you propose can either make or break an entire enterprise, so if I was in your position I surely wouldn't wanna risk by posting a query & getting some responses, as those responses will be based on what they think is the need & not your client's need.

I hope you & the rest of the people who might have similar question, read this & take the right steps rather than relying on a forum to do an implementation.

Good luck.

Thanks Mr Vivek,

Thanks a lot for your encouraging statment , first of all I want to tell you that I have come to this forum thinking that I will get suggestion NOT ANSWER on my querries and the best suitable solution will be given to the client after discussing with my team member .

no one is going to do implementaion based on the suggestion given in this forum. there are lot of things involved before giving the solution to the client. so dont worry I am not going to give any solution to the client based on your replies.

Try to help people on their querries instead of giving lecture and never forget your old days when you have started your carrear in SAP.Surprised to have statements like this from a person whom people has awarded this much of point.

Seems my input has taken you on a tangential route, missing the essence of it & instead clinging onto the words. (surprised to note it was a lecture.)

I guess you would have considered me of great help if I had pasted some SAP links, some threads n some general info. w/o me having an iota of understanding of your client's exact needs.

And yes I haven't forgotten my initial days in SAP. It is because of that I chose to respond to your query & wanted you to take the right path instead of trying to get some generic 'SUGGESTIONS' (hope I have used the right word now), which at a later date will put in a tight spot.

As stated by you, the reason you're here is to get ' SUGGESTIONS ' and then base your decision on that post discussions with your team member. So if the inputs to your decision making is based on random ideas, you can imagine the possible outcome.

I don't know why people have put in points under my name.... well maybe they felt the input provided was of value to them.

Maybe when all the dust of your implementation project settles down you will realize, some medicines taste bitter when had, but provides the best possible relief.

Anyways if any of my inputs has offended you either personally or professionally I withdraw my 'STATEMENTS' and offer an unconditional apology to you.
