hi there!
I installed EP 6.0 SP2 patch 4 and visual composer and I want to create a model inside the composer based on a R/3 BAPI.
I added a R/3 system as a dedicated applications server inside the portal but for some reason the R/3 system does not show up inside the composer, and the field to search a systems is protected. The connection to the portal shows a green light.
What did i do wrong?

Hello,
Could you tell me where do you configure an application server inside EP?
Thx,
mejj

Hi,
Which version of Visual Composer are you using?
You may be having either of the following problems:
1. An alias was not defined for your system. VC only shows current available system aliases.
2. You're using MSXML4 SP2 on your server and connecting to the Portal from the client using a fully qualified domain which causes system list to return empty. Try using the machine name only when typing the Portal's address (like: http://machine:port with no domain). This problem will be fixed in a future patch.

Yaniv.

Hi Yaniv,
Thanks for the hint. I defined an alias for the system and yes i now can see the system inside the composer. But at the moment i want to search for a BAPI i get the following message.
Search returned an error
Failed to connect to backend system. Check your system definitions and user priveleges.
I checked my system definition on the portal. As far as i can see they look ok.
Can you give me a hint.
Hi,
It seems that now you have a permission problem when connecting to the backend. In some cases you need to define user mapping to map the current Portal user to the correct backend user you have.
This is configured on the "User Management" part of the system editor in the Portal in which you need to specify how to logon to the backend system and whether or not to use user mapping (the mapping itself is configured in another location in the Portal: User Administration -> User Mapping).
Hope that solves it.
Best regards,
Yaniv.
Hi Yaniv.
I changed the user management attribute 'usermappingfields'
of the R/3 system definition into 'user, admin'. After this i could see this R/3 system during user mapping and filled in my userid and password for the R/3 system.
Now the composer gives me the BAPI's on the system.
great.... and many thanks for helping!

Hi Bertil,
You liked the answer, but did you forget to give points as a little thank you?
See: </people/mark.finnern/blog/2004/08/10/spread-the-love for directions.
Click on the Yellow Star icon in each reply.
You can give:
1 - 10 pointer (solves problem, marks as answered)
2 - 6 pointers (very helpful)
Lots of 2 pointers (helpful)
This time I did it for you - but you can change them.
Cheers,
Joan (and Mark Finnern)
Yes, I have installed VC 6.0 SP1, but am running VC on a workstation with XP. The portal I'm using is EP6 SP2 on unix. What do I need to do in this case?
Also, now that I'm using XML parser 4.0, I can get a list of transactions, but can not add one to the workspace. I get "Portal request failed (com/sap/mdi/ObjectFactory)". Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Thomas
