Migration of Folder and Permissions

Hi all,

i have a very urgent question.

I know that it is not possible to migrate folders and its permissions. Nevertheless that´s a big issue for us.

We are using a lot of Folders with permission on it.

But when we go to the Test Stage we have probably the possibility to "migrate" the folders via webdav but we loose all permissions again. Then we have to set them again and test them again.

After successful test we go to production but we have to create everything again and furthermore there is a strong need to test that again.

My question now: is there any possibility or workaround (also unsupported one ) to migrate the permissions either in the sense of a XML file or in the sense of creating a sql script?

Nicole -

If you migrate the content via ICE (Information and Content Exchange), the ACLs on the folders should be migrated. However, service permissions are not migrated and would need to be recreated.

The other caveat is that the roles in the target system need to be previously created.

Hi all,

for the Content Exhange i need an HTTP connection which we do not have.

Is there any other known workaraound.

I am still thinking of copying a special XML. As far as i understood now the permission settings are not stored in the SQL DB. At least i could not find anything in the WCM.

By the way we are using EP6 SP2.

You don't need an HTTP connection, when you export, a file is created on your pc, then you import that into another portal, it's very simple. Look up these topics in the admin manual, they walk you thru it step by step.

Exporting an Offline Package

Use

You are using the ICE repository to export a content package manually. The package can contain more than one component, that is, it can have several folder hierarchies in different repositories.

Procedure

1. Choose Content Administration ® KM Content from the top-level navigation bar.

2. Navigate to the ICE ® Syndicator ® Global Offer folder.

3. Choose Folder ® New ® Link.

4. Choose Browse and navigate to the folder that contains the content you want to distribute. Select the folder and choose OK.

If the package is to contain more than one component, create more than one link in the Global Offer folder.

5. Click onComplete Package or Incremental Package.

§ A complete package contains all documents in the folders and subfolders to which you have created links.

§ An incremental package only contains the data necessary for an incremental update, that is, new and changed documents and folders, and the data that identifies deleted documents and folders.

The system generates a content package. You reach the download dialog box for your browser.

6. Choose Save File to Disk.

You reach the save dialog box for your operating system.

7. Choose a storage location on a hard disk, and choose Save.

You can also carry out this action if you access the Global Offer folder using WebDav.

Result

The content package is stored on your hard drive as a zip file. You can offer this zip file on a CD or on a server for manual download, for example.

Importing an Offline Package

Use

You have received a content package in the form of a ZIP file and want to import it into one of your repositories. You can use this procedure to import KM content delivered by SAP into your repositories, for example.

Procedure

1. Choose Content Management ® Content Exchange from the top-level navigation bar, and then choose Package Upload from the detailed navigation area.

2. Enter an ID and enter the path to the ZIP file in the File field, or choose Browse... to find the file.

3. Choose Upload.

The system uploads the ZIP file to the ICE repository and imports the contents to the target repository.

The ZIP file is displayed in the ICE repository with a file size of 0 bytes. This is only a temporary entry.

No target path can be specified when importing an offline package. The files are moved to the same path as in the syndicator’s system. The repository has to exist in the subscriber’s system.

thanks a lot for your detailed help. With this description i was able to export/import the KM content with all the permissions within a couple of minutes!!!

Hi,

Thanks for the step-by-step procedure.

I just have 'ice' folder under '/etc'. Should I create the Syndicator and Global Offer folder or look some where else in the repository?

Also for all folders under '/etc' the drop-down menu for New doesn't have 'Link' or 'External Link' as options. I am not sure if there is some additional step in KM Configuration that is missing.
