Have you tried opening the CSV file using Notepad rather than Excel? Excel will format the CSV file and often does so in an inappropriate way for your requirements.

You need to open the data in Excel in a specific way. Rather than just opening the file in Excel by double clicking on it, open up a new, blank spreadsheet in Excel. Then go to Data > Get External Data > From Text. You should get an Import Wizard window. Click Next then put a tick into each of the relevant boxes in the Delimiters section. Then click Finish and it should work.

I have assumed you are using Excel 2007.
