Revision change without version change

From what I know so far I need to change version if I wanted to change revision for a Document using ECM. Is there any way I can only use revisions but not versions.

Am afraid that can't be achieved in the standard behavior(bypassing ECM for effecting revisions).Revision,i believe, indicates an important version, hence you can looking at defining your versioning parameter(Eg:A1,B1...et-al) in DC 10 to output as per your requirement.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. We actually think that versions are confusing to the users. All they want is for example an engineering drawing which is revised from time to time. When it is revised it, there should only be one revision out in the system at anytime.

I think with versions, you can have multiple versions active all at the same time in the system. this is a strong no-no. Also is there a way to use revision control without ECm (Change number) using any user exit etc.

Thank you

Appears to be a perfect case for effecting Change Mgmt!!

However, would like to apprise you that version of a DIR is different from version(content version) of an original file.Though multiple content versions of a single original file can exist in a DIR,you can choose to set a particular content version as 'Active/Current'.Would this sort out your issue?

Not exactly but for now I am going to use T code CC15 to change the revision level. Since my ECM is in an external PLM software all I need is to provide a place holder for the revision number assigned, I can get away with this. I will have one ECM number assigned and keep on changing the revision level using CC15.
