Declation of *in infrent of table ?

Hi Guys,

i want know here i have see the code in some of programs in my project

they used * infrent of table to get the data

please let me know what is the purpose of this ..

tables: *bseg.

select bukrs from *BSEG INTO BSEG-BUKRS where BUKRS = '1000'.

ENDSELECT.

WRITE:' HELLO'.
