ESS node missing in IMG

Former Member

Hi,

We have ECC 6.0 EHP4 and SAP-HR and EA-HR are on EHP4 SP20. We have not activated EA-HR and using HR for payroll for a while. We are planning to implement ESS/MSS solution based on EHP4. We are unable to see the node "Employee Self-Service" under img>>Personnel management

Is there anything need to be activated to enable Employee Self-Service node? From my understanding we don't need to activate EA-HR unless and until we use EA-HR features. We also do not want to try activating EA-HR since we cannot roll back.

We are planning to start with "Leave Request" and "Payslip" services only for ESS at this stage.

Appreciate you help here.

Thanks

Siva

Hi,

Lukas is right.

Activating EA-HR in transaction SFW5 will solve the problem.

Kind Regards

Hi,

I can't answer your question 100%, but I think you need to implement certain Business Configuration Sets to make things visible in Customizing and as far as I understand, BC-Sets depend on Business Functions after all.

Check these Links for a reference:

The listed BC-Sets are part of EA-HR so I think you will need to activate it in Switch Framework..

hope it helps, regards

Thanks for the response.

Further reading on the documentation (http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/en/aa/9f75620a8d4a2e9181db37f2fa2a62/frameset.htm) says for ESS self service homepage configuration as below

If you use the Self-Services Homepage, you must make the necessary settings in the portal and in the backend system (SAP ECC 5.0). You can make the settings required for the backend system (SAP ECC 5.0) using the Implementation Guide (IMG). You can find the IMG activity for the Self-Services Homepage under Cross-Application Components ®Homepage Framework. The documentation on this IMG activity contains further information.

Also in the IMG documentation on ECC system says as follows

The Homepage Framework enables you to create overview and area pages, thereby providing your employees easy access to Web applications (services) that run in the SAP Enterprise Portal. These pages group and describe the different services and contain hyperlinks with which they can be started. Various components such as Employee Self-Service or Manager Self-Service can use the framework.

Is the above statements mean that I can also use IMG path Cross-Application Components >> Homepage Framework for ESS and MSS homepage configuration ?

Can you please share your thoughts on this.

Thanks

For MSS the homepage configuration you should do in the portal.

You not do the configuration in the backend. All is in the frontend.

Is very easy.

What about ESS homepage configuration ? Is it done on the backend.

Can you also please confirm without any ESS configuration on the backend (ECC) will the out of box portal ESS work ? Assume I do all portal side configurations like ESS business packages installed, JCo setup, System alias, SLD to ECC.

Hi,

first of all concerning your last question. Without any Configuration on Backend ESS will NOT entirely work out of the box. But don't worry, the reason is simple: The Services defined in Homepage Framework use the corresponding Ressources to navigate back to the portal via PCD-URLs. Those PCD-URLs in the Ressources are empty by default, because what goes in there depends on how your Portal Content has been deployed. Thus, all you have to do is:

1. Execute the corresponding Portal Object in your Portal

2. trace it down to the iView or alternatively view details

3. copy the full technical name (includes the whole path) from the iView in into the PCD-URL of the corresponding Ressource to your Backend

This way your Backend "finds the way back" to the right Portal Object.

Then about your configuration-question concerning IMG and HPF for ESS and MSS:

The mapping for ESS until EHP4 (and including EHP) is inevitably done in HPF in Backend.

MSS , in general, works a little different. Parts of the functionalities you have in Backend for ESS have been adapted to iViews in MSS (they have a special Property-Category named "Self Service"). HPF isn't meant for MSS in general. But it can't be explained generically with a few single sentences...

If you have more exact questions I'll gladly try to help you. Aside from that I highly reccomend the courses SAPEP and HR255 to you.

I hope, this helped you a bit so far
