Change AD to CMS - Important

Former Member

Hi,

I already have my system running in BPC 75 MS Version SP04, and the configuration of security by using Active Directory.

I have been using the Web plattform with Xcelsius Dashboards, however the dashboard everytime that loads asks for a user and password.

The person that is in charge of Xcelsius (my partner) said that the only way to "remove" this is by installing the Mini BOE. But so far, i've read that the CMS installation was supposed to happen before the install of BPC.

At this point, i need to know what to do in order to arrange this.

Also, if I have more BPC servers, they can still work with AD right ?

Thanx

Yes that's it.

Install CMS and go to server Manager and change the settings.

After that you have also a Migration of tool which must be used in case if you want to migrate users from BPC into CMS.

CMSMigration.exe from folder: D:\PC_MS\Server Management\CMSMigration.

But you don't need a reinstall of BPC server.

Hi,

I finally installed CMS, changed settings in Server Manager and run CMSMigration.exe

An error occurs after "Validating users" from my applications, it shows "[15] users do not have CMS user information" and so on for the next steps which are "Migrate, View Result, Set Complete, Cancel".

What am I missing?

Again I'm not sure why we are speaking about reinstall.

You don't need to reinstall BPC. You have to use Server Manager and to change the authentication to a CMS server.

Of course before to do that you need to have CMS installed. It can be into the same server with BPC or into another server.

Hi,

Maybe I am getting confused... I havent installed CMS, and according to some comments from SAP Support and the Ops Manual, it needed to be installed prior BPC.

Are you suggesting to install the CMS, open the Server Manager and change the settings?

As simple as that...

Hi,

The recommendation to install CMS to get rid of prompt windows is right.

Installation of CMS can be done at any time but only after you performed the installation you will be able to change the authentication of BPC from Windows AD to CMS.

This can be done from Server Manager .

Attention once which you will change the authentication of the BPC system to CMS you cannot go back to Windows AD authentication.

Just reinstallaing the BPC it is possible this.

Of course you can have different BPC system with different authentication.

For example development with CMS and Production with Windows AD.

But you can not have one environment with 2 application server using the same db server one using CMS and the other one using Windows AD.

Hi Sorin,

Thank you for the information. It is always a plus to have a 2nd opinion like yours.

I am getting help from SAP Support to perform this.

Can you just tell me which other features provided (in general), need to be installed from the beggining, because it is always a trouble to reinstall BPC.

Yes, MiniBOE (with the CMS components) must be installed before BPC so you would have to uninstall BPC, install and configure CMS then reinstall BPC. This is a pretty complicated task that should be performed ideally by someone from the Technical Consulting team.

Also, once you choose an authentication method, you must ONLY use that method for a particular system. You could potentially use AD for Dev and CMS for Production, but updates between systems would require some work to convert the appset and users from one method to the other.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for the information, it is very helpful.

I guess you are the person that is taking responsability for the incident on SAP Support...?

There is a problem with the web page and I cannto access to it, but I'd like to start with the process suggested to make this happen.
