Cannot Connect using Access/Excel (DAO)

Former Member

I just purchased CR 2008 yesterday and no matter what I try I cannot connect to a simple spreadsheet sitting on my desktop using Access/Excel (DAO) connection type.

I keep getting an error saying:

Login Failed

Deatails: DAO Error Code: Oxbd5

Source: DAO.DBEngine

Description: Not a valid account name or password.

I should not an account name or password since this is sitting on my desktop.

Any suggestions?

Create a ODBC or OLE DB connection to it.

If that doesn't work need a lot more info.

Try Service Pack 3 and Fix Pack 3.3 also.

Don thank you for your response.

I am using version 12.3.0.601

One of the first things I tried was to download the patches and it said I was up to date.

Is the Access/Excel (DAO) connection option valid?

I am getting the same error message no matter what I try to connect to using that option and all items are on my desktop.

thank you

Microsoft changed the DAO engines and we've discovered that using ODBC or OLE DB to connect is the only option now.

Some legacy thingy that MS had so we dropped native support so now we only use ODBC or OLE DB to get to those sources.

Thank you

Don,

Does this apply to Excel 2003 or just the newer versions?

thank you

It depends on the version of MDAC or WDAC you have installed. MS's data access components is the one CR uses to connect. So if it's the latest one, and likely is then use ODBC.

Try it to see if it works.
