Storage Section Settings

Hi Gurus

I put in the customizing of storage type Addition to stock "M" and in the material master I mark the flag for addition to stock this does not work as spected, when I receive a PO with 2 materials on it, they go to 902, then I try to process the posting change notice but I get error no destination storage bin could be found in storage type XXX

These 2 materials have the same storage section, and I have correctly defined a strategy to place accordingly this storage section,

The current putaway is L next empty bin, and if I change to "I" addn to stock then system allows the putaway but just for one materials automatically, with the second one I still get the error but If I manually type the bin of the storage section then It allows putaway too.

Can you explain what needs to be done to allow putaway of stock in a storage type wich is divided into 3 storage sections, 2 of them are assigned to two bins each (2X2=4bins), and the last storage section is linked only to one bin. (Total of 5 bins)

The rare thing here is that in the first 2 storage section that have 2 bins each, I can put material on it only one palled on each bin, if for some reason only half pallet is placed, then no more stock can be placed there, How to check this capacities?

And for last the strategy is that system tries to putaway first in storage section 1, if no empty bin then try in sto section 2, and if no empty bin there, then it should go to storage section 3 (wich has only one bin attached) but I want to make this bin like infinite capacity so if there is no room in the first two storage sections (4 bins) then it will go to the las storage section wich can allow addition to stock and mix storage.

Please your inputs will be really appreciated on what atrategy and capacity cetting need to be done on customizing and material master of material to achieve this.

Hi,

you are describe three issues.

1st issue - Posting change

2rd issue - section search

3nd issue - Material Master

1st issue - I assume that you receive material in "Q" state and will post it to unrestricted. The MM part will be done but WM fails.

You need to look into the posting changes and select "posting change to same bin".

This would remove the Q in 902.

2nd issue - It seems for putaway you have not maintained the section search nor a section indicator in the customizing. The system do not know where to search.

3rd issue - You should maintain then the section indicator in the WM1 view.

Thanks for your quick Reply, The posting change issue is solved, the problem is when doing the putaway from the 902 GR area to tha RAW storage type, I have mantained storage type indicatos, mantained this in material master and setted up appropiate strategies.

The strategy works but just for the materials that go for one specific bin, when system look for an empty bin and there is no empty one, then it should look for the next storage section in the strategy which is an infinite capacity bin (at least this is what I am tryin to achieve)

Any ideas on what setting need to be done at storage type customizing and material master, capacity usage in material or in storage type.

Please any more inputs will be highly appreciated.

Your ST must be configured with the "Capacity check method" setting. Select the one which is applicable to your scenario.

Your thread regarding capacity makes this concept perfectly clear to me thank you so much!!

But what happens if I want to place a GR of 10 and capacity is 1 and I want to split the placement into 10 different bins?

Per my question before can you please explan which putaway strategy will be more suitable?

Also it would be very helpful if you could explain whats the difference of how does system react to the different capacity check methods, I´m not sure is 2, 3 or 4 would be best for me, in your thread that capacity is made with 3 or 4 check method?

In your thread you don't mention SUT's right? that's something else that was not covered in your thread right?

My thread was based on capacity check method 1 and 4.

I will check the other capacity indicators and let you know...I'm just don't have access to a test system right now.

Better late than never...Here are the other capacity check methods:

Check 2:

=======

o SUT check must be active - if not, then config for SUT assignments to ST will not be used

o For the material no specific capacity data needs to be entered

o For the bin no specific capacity data needs to be entered

o Example:

u2022 Material: 1234

u2022 Liters per CAS: 4.800

u2022 ST/Bin: 112/112-01-01

u2022 Max Bin Weight: 1,500Kg

u2022 Total Capacity: 3,000

u2022 Stock to be placed (Weight): 907.200L = 2,721.600Kg (1L = 3Kg)

u2022 Transaction SUT: T1

u2022 Allowed SUT for ST: C1

o The system stops the transaction for the transaction SUT is not valid according the SUT allowed per Storage Type configuration. Message: Storage Unit Type is not allowed for ST112.

Check 3:

========

o The material must be created for the specific ST (WM2 masterdata view) and the maximum bin qty needs to be speicfied.

o For the bin no specific capacity data needs to be entered

o Example:

u2022 Material: 3344

u2022 Liters per CAS: 4.800

u2022 ST/Bin: 113/113-01-01

u2022 Max Bin Weight: 1,500Kg

u2022 Max Bin Qty: 750L

u2022 Total Capacity: 0

u2022 Stock to be placed (Weight): 768L = 2,304.000Kg (1L = 3.000Kg)

o The following checks were done:

u2022 Bin Quantity Check

u2022 The maximum bin qty was set to 750L (Base UoM)

u2022 The quantity of the product to be placed was 768L ( = 2,304.000Kg). This qty is more than the maximum bin quantity which is 750L (Base UoM), so according to the quantity the product may not be placed in the bin. Message: Maximum qty for storage bin 113-01-01 will be exceeded by 3.750CAS.

o Note from the above that the error message is expressed on the putaway quantity and not the capacity quantity.

o Note: No weight and volume checks are done (see the weight of transaction > bin maximum weight)

Check 5:

========

o Additional config: SPRO  Logistics Execution  Warehouse Management  Master Data  Material  Define Storage Unit Types - Specify the capacity for the SUT

o For the material no specific capacity data needs to be entered

o For the bin the Total Capacity field must be filled

o Example:

u2022 Material: 5678

u2022 Liters per CAS: 4.800

u2022 ST/Bin: 114/114-01-01

u2022 Max Bin Weight: 1,500Kg

u2022 Total Bin Capacity: 3.000

u2022 Total SUT Capacity: 5.000

u2022 Stock to be placed (Weight): 907.200L = 2,721.600Kg (1L = 3.000Kg)

o The following checks were done:

u2022 Capacity Check according to SUT Capacity:

u2022 The capacity of the SUT used is 5.000

u2022 The capacity limit for the bin is 3.000

u2022 The error message is displayed stating that the placement capacity is more than the allowed (maximum) capacity:

5.000- 3.000 = 2.000 (Message: Storage Unit Type C1 exceeds remaining capacity by 2.000)

o Note that no check according weight was done. The transaction weight was 2,721.600kg vs the maximum bin weight of 1,500.000kg

o Note from the above that the error message is expressed on the putaway quantity (SUT capacity used) and not the capacity quantity.

Check 6:

========

o Additional config: SPRO  Logistics Execution  Warehouse Management  Master Data  Material  Define Storage Unit Types - Specify the capacity for the SUT

o For the material enter a capacity value (WM1 view)

o For the bin enter a capacity value

o Example:

u2022 Material: 1007

u2022 Liters per CAS: 4.800

u2022 ST/Bin: 115/115-01-01

u2022 Max Bin Weight: 1,500Kg

u2022 Material Capacity per BUoM: 1.000

u2022 Total Bin Capacity: 800.000

u2022 Total SUT Capacity: 5.000

u2022 Stock to be placed (Capacity): 907.200L + 5.000 = 912.200

u2022 Stock to be placed (Weight): 907.200L = 2,721.600Kg (1L = 3.000Kg)

The following checks were done:

u2022 Capacity Check according to SUT Capacity:

u2022 The capacity of the SUT used is 5.000

u2022 The capacity limit for the bin is 800.000

u2022 The error message is displayed stating that the placement capacity is more than the allowed (maximum) capacity: 912.200 - 800.000 = 112.2000 (112.200 / 4.800 = 23.375CAS). Message: Maximum qty for storage bin 115-01-01 will be exceeded by 23.375CAS.

o Note that no check according weight was done. The transaction weight was 2,721.600kg vs the maximum bin weight of 1,500.000kg.

o Note from the above that the error message is expressed on the putaway quantity (SUT capacity used) and not the capacity quantity.
