Journal corresponding to Sales Delivery

Hello Everyone,

I am facing problem with the Jounal Remark field in Accounting Tab of Sales Deliveries.

Problem Description : In Some of the Sales Deliveries the link to its corresponding Journal is coming while the same link is absent in some of the sales delivery documents.

I am unable to find out why the link is missing in some sales delivery while a sales delivery made with the same business partner and items shows the link.

I also checked the table ODLN --Over there the TransId field is showing as NULL for some of the Sales Deliveries

I am using SBO 8.8 PL18. Company Localization - India, G/L Accounts are Segmented.

Please let me know if there is any setting for which the same is happening.

Thanks & Regards,

Saikat Roy

Hi All,

Thanks for your quick responses. But my problem is yet not solved.

@Julie, @Kevin : I am dealing with stock items, and the Document type is not Sevice.

@Kerstin : I tested the scenario :

1. By putting the Unit Price in Sales Delivery itself---Still the Journal link is Not Showing.

2. By putting the the Item Price in Item Master Data with Price-List 01 and then made a Sales Delivery, Still the Journal link in Accounting Tab is Missing.

Now I have another Problem related to this, I checked the Sales Deliveries for which the Journal link is available.

The Problem is : The Amount in the Sales Delivery(Tax is Nil) and that in the corresponding Journal are completely different.

Can you all please let me know why such things are happening?

Thanks & Regards,

Saikat Roy

Hi Saikat,

The sales price has nothing to do with the journal entry. In a perpetual stock system, the exit of an item from the warehouse is captured in a journal entry that reduces the overall value of the stock account of that warehouse & offsets the amount against the account for cost of goods sold.

The value captured is the item cost, not the sales price.

Say you buy 10 apples for 1 EUR each, then 1 EUR is your item cost. You now deliver one of these apples at a price of 5 EUR. The journal will show that the value of your warehouse has gone down by 1 EUR & your cost of goods sold account balance has gone up. If you received the apples without an item cost, then they have no value in the warehouse & therefore no journal is created when they exit. The same principle applies when you have an item marked as not being an 'Inventory Item' in the item master data.

Please have a look at the documentation about perpetual inventory in the documentation resource centre.

All the best,

Kerstin

Hi Saikat Roy,

in addition to the 2 scenarios above, if the delivered item has no item cost in spite of being a tock item, then there is no stock posting & thus no journal entry.

All the best,

Kerstin

Hi Saikat,

If the deliveries are for items which are not stock items, there will be no journal entry passed, as there is no stock movement therefore no cost of sales to record either. Does that explain your situation?
