SUP and SybaseWorkspace

Hi,

I am new to mobile development. While browsing through material on SDN and Sybase sites, I came across two words namely "SUP" and "SybaseWorkspace".

What I want to understand is :

1. Are these two different development environments or is SUP a part of SybaseWorkspace

2. If they are different ,can I install SUP even if I do not have SybaseWorkspace installed on my system . I want to connect to

my database using RFCs and display data on a mobile device.

TIA.

Himanshu

Hi,

SUP is Sybase Unwired Platform, the mobile enterprise application platform from Sybase. Sybase Unwired Workspace is part of SUP and is a development environment based on Eclipse.

You might be able to develop a mobile application using SUP without Sybase Unwired Workspace but I don't understand why you would want to do this. Sybase Unwired Workspace is a SUP component and offers great tools to develop mobile applications so you should use it.

If you don't need the whole SUP package Sybase offers other products that may suit your needs (Mobilink, SQL Anywhere...). If you just want to connect to a SAP backend via RFCs and need some kind of sync mechanism you should probably use SUP.

HI Pierre,

Thanks for the reply.

If I understand correctly , then Sybase Unwired Workspace is like an IDE based on Eclipse and forms part of the SUP which is the

actual platform .

So if I can download SUP , will I get Sybase Unwired Workspace bundled with it.

Also let me know which is the latest stable release of SUP that I should download.

Thanks and Regards,

Himanshu

Yes, that's it. You can install Sybase Unwired Workspace during the installation of SUP.

If you don't have a SUP license, you can contact SAP or Sybase and request a Personal Developer Edition to evaluate the solution. You can also do it on Sybase website -> http://marketing.ianywhere.com/forms/WWQ109DWNLDSUPPersonalDeveloperEdition
