Virtual Or Floating Bins in WM

Hi Gurus...

We have a scenario, where in after picking from the BIn for a Sales delivery, the user places this picking in a BOX called as TOTE to carry it to the place for shipping or consolidation.

Infact I am struggling hard to bring these TOTES in SAP system since in our scenario, we have RF and Handhelds. These totes have barcodes to identify them by numbers.

Can we create Virtual Bins or Floating Bins in the warehouse and use them as totes?

On the project I am on at the moment we have something similar, when we have picked the deliveries then on the Scanner we have the option to 'Stage to deliver' and we scan the HU's (boxes) in to a 'Load Point'

These are configurable and can represent an area in the warehouse where you consolidate the deliveries prior to loading the lorry

My question is I am unable to set these totes as some entities. HUs are something which are loaded directly in to the truck, that too with packaging materials. But totes are something like material handling equipments. My hint was can we create some kind of floating bins per storage type (e.g. for Storage Type 916, instead of dynamic bins) and do stock transfer to these bins in LT10 from picking bin to these floating bins.

I am not sure if we can call totes as HUs...

Please suggest some solution

Hi,

Why don't you use some kind of 2-step picking process. We use wave picking with TRM and can accomplish this. Have a look at the 2-step picking processes and see if you can find a solution from this. Are you using std centralized WM?

Thanks for the reply.

Two step process is for group of outbound deliveries. I have tried to use this transaction, which uses Storage Type 200 as the interim storage type.

In our scenario, TOTES are used both for Putaway and Picking, and with RF guns the track the Bin number and the Totes number. I some how need to map this Tote as almost close to Bin (in motion).

As I told, Totes are material carrying Plastic Boxes with unique barcode number on them, the job of tote is finished as soon the material is taken away from it either for putaway or picking. It is kind of process automation to avoid human process. Tote is always carried on a conveyor belt.

Can someone help ??

Hi,

You can try following and see if it meet s your requirement.

If you are using RF, you have to develop special RF transactions

(1) Use field LTAP-ZEUGN --- (Certificate number) to map the Tote number. You have to go for RF development (customized) screen. While putting away/picking user will scan all the materials from the tote and when all the materials are scanned then he will scan the tote number. This way transfer order will corresponds to Tote number. Tote number will update in transfer order certificate number field (LTAP-ZEUGN).

(2) Whenever user want to confirm the transfer order, he will just scan the tote number and all the TO items corresponding to Tote will be visible one by one.

(3) You can manually update certificate number as "Tote number" in transfer order if not using RF

(4) You can Fetch this certificate number field in all SAP report (LT22, LT23,LT24 etc) using suitable layout selection

I meant to say, if ONE ITEM requires more than one TOTE, then how can we enter this in single field in Certificate No?

It could be the case with my client scenario.

Hello,

I believe that in your case TOTE number means basket. (How can you store one item in two different TOTE?) Scan all the materials from the basket (TOTE) and create TO then scan the TOTE. In second RF transaction, scan the TOTE and you will get all the items and TOs of that TOTE. You need to develop RF program for this depending on the business scenario. Main idea is, we can use certificate number for capturing Tote number.

You can use LM45 pick and pack and have the tote as an SU (storage unit) it's called a pick HU - you might need some supporting config to determine the default SU type by Storage type.
