Timing of the Change to new Fiscal Year Variant (before/after per12 MEC?)

Dear Experts,

From my finding, I understand that we can only make the change of shortened fiscal year variant if there has not been any posting yet in a period that will disappear when shortened fiscal year becomes effective. Recently weu2019re using a year dependent Fiscal Year Variant (V3) where itu2019s been set as Apr.- March with 4 special periods. However, we are required to change our variant to Shortened Fiscal Year Variant for 2011 and to start use Fiscal Year Variant K4 (Calendar Year) by 2012.

Should I change to Shortened Fiscal Year Variant after the March-MEC (period12, 2010)? For your information, currently, weu2019re in period 11, 2010 (Feb2010). From my thinking, there should not be an issue if I change the variant to Shortened Fiscal Year even after the MEC of period 11, 2010. As u20182010u2019 is still having the same number of periods from Shortened Fiscal Year Variant because we still need to maintain the historical calendars (at least 2 calendar years) before and after the shortened fiscal year.

Current Fiscal Year: 2010

Current period: period 11, 2010 (February)

Next period: period 12, 2010 (March)

Shortened Fiscal Year: 2011 (9 periods)

Period 1: April 2011

Period 9: Dec 2011*

The main reason I planned to change the variant after MEC of Period 11, 2010 (February) because I want to avoid any posting to period 1, 2011(April) especially after the acrrual posting from MEC of period 12, 2010 (March).

I would appreciate if someone could share some ideas/thought/advice on this matter. I am clear with all the configuration steps that need to be done in Fiscal Year Variant Change (OB29, OB37, OKKP, AOYP, SAPNote 123026, OAYR, AFARu2026) but the only thing that I need to clarify is on the timing to change to new Fiscal Year variant.

Thanks in advance, all.
