Does system type of System connector matter

Hi guys,

We have 2 system connectors whereby:

System Connector A:

- system type = SAP_R3

- Web AS hostname= xxx.yyy:50100

- WEBAS path = /webdynpro/dispatcher

System Connector B:

- system type = SAP_BW

- ITS hostname = xxx.yyy:8000

- ITS path = /sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui

- Web AS hostname= xxx.yyy:8000

- Web AS path = /sap/bw/BEx

- Logical System Name = xyz

- System client = 100

- System ID = abc

- Server port = dfg

However, we have BEX iViews that use System connector A and WebDynPro Abap iviews using System connector B. I wouldn't have thought it would be possible since it is the standard practice to connect BEX iViews to a SAP_BW type connector and WDA iView to a SAP_R3 type connector but it somehow works here. Thus my question is does the 'system type' field really make a difference? Or is ensuring the WEB AS properties sufficient enough?

Thanks,

ZM
