Is there a way of re-verse engineering the XCelsius Flash file?

XCelsius 2008, XIR3.2

My understanding is that when developer's publish XCelsius (xlf) to Infoview that the published file becomes Flash (swf) and that there isn't any way to reverse engineering and/or support the file. We have already seen several occurences whereby project teams haven't managed their source files (xlfs) adequately and have forced rebuild's and/or major re-writes to upgrade. Long term I am concerned for when we upgrade to XIR4 that our dynamic dashboards will not be able to migrate without costly manual intervention and even then I am expecting we will lose many due to versioning or source file (xlf) mismnagement.

Currently we prefer Webi and Crystal because they are easier to support and we can reverse engineer them as needed and therefore pose less risk to our overall analytics and dashboarding strategy.

Is my understanding incorrect and there is actually a tool out there that will assist us?

Thanks,
