Constraint based Detailed Scheduleing

I have a need to provide a constraint based detailed scheduling solution to one of our plants.

We currently perform our planning functions in ERP6.0 using traditional MPS/MRP. We perform work center capacity loading and balancing via MF50.

But I need to be able to provide a solution that will allow other constraints to be used in preparing the end item schedule.

Constraints might be based on product color or other physical attributes.

Does anyone have experience with this type of issue? Is there a solution within ERP6.0 or must you look to APO's Detailed Scheduling capability? Are there any 3rd party software packages that you have found useful for this type of scheduling?

For Constrains Based Planning you need to turn to APO.
