How set a UDF field to unique?

Hi Experts!

I created a UDF for PO caller PR Number which will have a value once the user key in the PR Number of the transaction. Now here goes the problem. It allows to add a PO even if the PR Number is already used. Is there a way to make this field a unique field meaning if the PR Number already exist it will prompt the user that the PR Number is already exist in the system and the PO will not be added. Hope you guys can help me again. Thanks in advance.
