Thanks.....Aby

Hi ABY,

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier.

I have moved the thread to the ABAP forum, so SDN members can comment to it.

With about 1200 threads the ABAP forum is one of the biggest, although not the biggest forum of all SDN.

I am open to splitting the forum, although I am not looking forward to moving 2/3 of the threads into new ones

I would like to get some feedback about what the general consensus is which forums should be created.

My opinion is to have as few as possible.

Please active SDN Members from this forum give me some concrete examples on what would make sense for you regarding splitting up. Let us also know if we should 'stay the course' and not split.

Thanks in advance, Mark.

Not sure if it could be implemented easy, but here are my two cents:

I will move all the non-modified topics after two days to their respective sub-forum.

The forum could be splited in:

- New posts

- General ABAP

- SAPscript/Smartforms

- BAPI

- ...

All the new posts will be put in the "News" forum, and this will prevent the "boring" searching of news what someone told. After few time without changes (I bet two days are enough), the post is moved to its respective forum, allowing people to search easyly.

As I said, I don't know if you (the SDN team) are able to code this. I think it could be done if you put some radiobuttons in the post screen, asking the poster where to move the post after the "new" period passed.

I'm sorry about my english, I'm not a native speaker.

I wish it will help,

Vicenç

I think we need to evaluate how many new posts we have per day. So far I don't see a lot of new posts per day. Total new posts and repost I can see daily takes about 2 pages. In my opinion, to much clicking to go to the subdirectories tend to make people less likely to go. So I think we should stay as it is. However, if the new posts tend to get bigger, then we might need to review this.

Hi

I, also, think that it is early to split the forum. As Nablan stated the load is not so much for now. However, to classify threads, there may be a new small field (e.g. 4-5 chars) showing the topic of the thread like 'ALE', 'ALV', 'REP', 'DIA', 'BAPI', 'DBU' 'PER'. This classification may also be discussed after Mark, as the man with the sweety logo, builds a primitive list. Moreover, this classification should be used as a criteria at the "Search Forum" utility. Because, thread headings may sometimes be confusing.

A second thing is that why can not we see some info about the contributors? E.g. their country (I know, we can see that if they are online), their interest area etc... or may be customized by the user which info can be seen by the others.

Or maybe chatting should be available ha? If the contributors want, the conversation during the chat session may be put as a thread into the forum... OK, I want all the ocean. Really, just for the sake of more interaction.

I sometimes think, "If only, in this forum, the utility for ...?" But they are all gone for the moment. I may write later...

Hi All,

I do agree with Nablan and Serdar that splitting up the forum for following up new posts is not necessary. However for searching old posts it would be convenient to have a further classification of the subjects.

John.

Well...as already discussed that the volume of postings on this forum is not enough to justify further classification of the ABAP Forum. As Serdar proposed, allowing the poster to classify the problem rather than focusing on the classification of the forum is a better idea. Under the ABAP forum, a select list will allow the poster to set the category. As already said, this will assist in searching the forum as well.

Regards

Hi Everyone,

There are some good suggestions. Just the experience of how hard it is to bring people to click two buttons to give points for a good answer makes me reluctant to add any complexities to the system. We don't have the capacity to police/enforce it.

No splitting as of yet. I hope the search brings back good enough results, Mark.
