Attribute "Characteristic relationship" issue

Hi,

we've a multi area(MA) created from 2 basic areas (actuals cube(AC), planning cube(PC)).

we've a manual planning in MA that gets data from AC. and based on AC data, user enters data for PC.

we've a planning folder that has the manual planning layout of MA as input layout. we have a variable for MaterialGroup in the folder. MaterialGroup is attribute of Material characteristic. Material along with some other characteristics are defined in the header of the manual planning layout.

so, when we execute the folder and enter a value for MaterialGroup variable, it asks us to select "first valid combination of values" for header characteristic to enter planned data.

we need to put some validation to check valid combination of "material and materialgroup" entered by user here.

we had created a characteristic relationship of type Attribute in PC cube with Basic Char "Material" and Attribute "MaterialGroup". even then PC cube is allowing invalid combinations of Material & MaterialGroup planned values.

where am doing wrong? is it because layout is in Multi area? but, SAP help documentation says it applies to multi area that has the basic cube with characteristic relationship.

I appreciate ur ideas.

    Hello Hari,

char.relationships regarding validation (combination check) are used only if all involved characteristics are in the planning level i.e. layout. Therefore, your layout must contain material and material group in order for the system to validate this combination as defined for the PC planing area.

However, many customers go for the other solution which is to enter data by material and automatically derive material group. In this case, the planning level must not contain material group.

You didn't say how your variable for material group is linked to the layout (what type of variable is it). Also is material group in your layout or not?
