Matching material masters

What kind of a matching process does MDM use to match material masters from different systems? Does MDM do a text string compare? Does it need to find an exact string match or does it use fuzzy logic to suggest a possible match? If MDM suggests a possible match that must then be resolved - accepted or rejected - manually by a material expert, is it possible to pass the suggested matches into an "expert" system and have that system pass the result - "accepted" or "rejected" back to MDM?

My company is an xApp Development Partner and has developed such an "expert" system that has been used with great success on projects that involve hundreds of thousands of difficult-to-resolve material matches and we're just starting to investigate the use of MDM. Any answers you can provide would be very much appreciated!

The MDM supports different customizable processes to match materials. Currently in MDM 3.0 there are three standard strategies available (based on 1. GTIN, 2. GTIN, Supplier Part Number and Manufacturer Part Number 3. Short Description and Category).

The MDM calculates possible matches based on the chosen matching strategy. The matching strategy can also be defined entirely by the customer in order to give highest flexibility.

MDM itself handles the workflow of accepting or rejecting matching proposals. So if you want to connect an "expert" system to calculate possible matches you can connect to the MDM via self-defined matching strategies.
