i want to know as to what advantages SAP XI offers over other middleware tools? Is it only a middleware tool or is it something more?
hi,
in my opininon it's both. it's just another middleware tool aiming at the state-of-the-art and it's something more since it's part of the netweaver environment and therefore more or less integrated in SAPs latest product family.
It's conforming to the usual standards as competing products do, taking part in the promotion of new concepts (e.g. BPEL4WS) and supplying SAP specific enhancements (e.g idoc, rfc, abap stuff).
so, i think XI3.0 is the application integration platform of choice for new installations, for installations already utilizing some other messaging middleware changint to XI balancing pros an is subject to an thorough evaluation.
just my 2 cents,
tony

Krishna,
There are lots of advantages. To list a few :
Integration with SAP products & components.
Iron clad data security as expected from any SAP product.
Standards based - XML, XSD, Xpath etc
Ability to communicate with other messaging systems/products.
Business Process Management
Synchronous & Asynchronous communication
Leverage existing SAP & ABAP skillset.
Mapping etc possible to accomplish in Java. Platform independent Java components.
Java & .Net support.
Hope this helps.

please homiar,
keep trivial and unprofessional marketing statements out of SDN.
in my opinion, the first point mentioned is indeed an (if not the) main advantage. the level of integration. automatic abap proxy generation to name but one.
the second point mentionend is, well, at least, a matter of perspective. i don't know what it means in the realm of XI.
all the other points mentionend are either trivialities, standard contemporary messaging middleware features or simply wrong (especially i'd like to see the 'server side support' for .net outlined in detail).
this is just my two cents, please don't take it personal.
regards,
tony
