Foreign Currency Bank Account reverted to local currency

Former Member

Hi,

I am in Australia, so local currency is AUD, I have a foreign currency bank account (USD) which has always been in USD currency however recently it has changed to AUD and does not allow me to change back to USD.

Does anyone know :

1/ how this happened ?

2/ how to fix it.

I have checked my test system which is an old copy of the database and it certainly shows the account was in USD (make sure I am not going mad)

Thanks and regards.

Nick

Hi Nick,

as long as the account currency is set to foreign currency (FC), it is possible to view the account balance in both FC & local currency (LC). Even is you view the balance in LC & then close the CoA, when you open it again, it'll default to account currency.

If the account currency is FC & you cannot view the account balance in FC, then there's something wrong. If however the account currency has been set to 'Multicurrency' or 'All currencies', then you won't be able to change it back to mono currency.

What you can do then is transfer all FC funds into a new FC account, change any relevant GL account determination & set the empty original account to 'Inactive' within the account details.

All the best,

Kerstin

Ok,

I think I know how it happened - I believe someone changed the currency drop down to AUD to see the balance in local currency and then closed .

Is there any way to revert without a system restore ?

Cheers

Hi Nick,

Whenever BP currency change, system will pop up a warning message. I am afraid one of your colleague just ignored the warning.

When you try to change it back, what message have you got?

Thanks,

Gordon
