How to get hold of master data changes log in APO/R3

Hi folks,

I am new to APO as well as SAP, hence pls pardon me if my querries seem naive 😊

I am in a situation which is as follows:

"We had to conduct a SNP Optimizer trial-dummy run for DRP planning for testing purpose. Hence we picked up one product maintained at six location in the PRODUCTION system & then copied the product master as-it-is to the DEVELOPMENT system

(The product-location combination was already present in the DEVELOPMENT system, we just copied all relevant APO master data details like SNP1, SNP2, Lot size, PPDS, Procurement, Demand & GR/GI, all details)

The intention being that we would run the Optimizer in the DEVELOPMENT system with exact Forecast, Stock in Hand & similar Product Master details for location-products.

However to our surprise many details of the Product Master in PRODUCTION were found changed after a week. For instance:

1) The SNP Production Horizon (SNP2 tab) was changed to 999 days instead of the earlier 0 days

2) The location dependent penanlty costs were also changed (SNP1 tab)

My querries are:

A) Are the product master changes in PRODUCTION dynamically changed by the end-users (supply planners) in R3 system & does it gets instantly reflected in the product master in APO (is thr a LAG is any of these movements)?

B) How to study the log for the last changes (say last 10-12 changes in product master for a particular field) date-wise & user-wise?

Please find answers to your questions below

    A) Are the product master changes in PRODUCTION dynamically changed by the end-users (supply planners) in R3 system & does it gets instantly reflected in the product master in APO (is thr a LAG is any of these movements)?

The product master could have been changed manually by the users in APO using tcode /n/sapapo/mat1. They could also have been changed becuase of changes to material in R/3. The material CIF will pick up material master changes (only of for those materials that are in the active material integration model) and the changes will be transferred to APO product master. Also material master (or any other master data object for that matter) changes do not reflect in APO instantaneously. The CIF has to be run for the master data changes to show up in APO. Only transaction data transfer is instantaneous.

    B) How to study the log for the last changes (say last 10-12 changes in product master for a particular field) date-wise & user-wise?

There are already many posts in this forum regarding this. But still - use tcode /n/sapapo/prod_cd_read. That will show u date wise / user wise changes

    Thanks

    Kumar,

Many planning-relevant changes to Material Masters in R/3 are automatically CIF'd across to SCM and update the product master accordingly. This is by design. R/3 is the 'master' of much of the MM type data. How often (instantly vs batch) is configurable. You can see in CFC9 (in the ERP system).

SCM by default does not log Product Master Changes. Although you can turn these logs on in Config, be aware that MM changes made in R/3 and CIFd across will probably be made by the USERID of the RFC connection. You can turn on Product Master Logging in configuration in SCM IMG > APO > Master Data > Product > Activate change documents.

You can review Material Master changes in R/3 using MM04.

    Best regards,

Thanks APARNA & DOGBOY for your tips. Your replies solved my querry. Thanks.

I found another quick way to spot when was this product-location combination modified last.

In /SAPAPO/MAT1 --> ADMINISTRATION [tab] -- the first row entry specifies:

      Created by : APOREMOTE : 15.07.2005 20:16:25 Changed by : APOREMOTE: 05.02.2011 19:15:33

It shows in quick glance that the master data when it was first created & when it was last modified.
