OpenSQL Access

I am new to SAP and have just started with the Netweaver examples. This went fine so far.

Now I have the following question. I am running the Netweaver Sneak Preview installation with MS SQL Server.

I am not sure which driver to use when I try to directly access the data with JDBC.

1) Of course I can directly use the SQL Server JDBC Drivers, which is not my goal. I want to use OpenSQL and become database independent - or do I mix here something.

2) All examples I found are based on Server Side access (via a datasource). I want to access the data directly from a remote client. So I need to get a connection directly which requires I know which driver to use.

3) I found these datadirect P9xxx Drivers. Is this the way to go.

Has somebody a hint for me?

Thx a lot!

    Hi Klaus,

Open SQL is a feature of SAP Web AS and you can only use it with the default DataSource provided at installation. This is shown in the examples that you have found in the documentation.

If you want to use other drivers, or to connect to database schemas other than the default one, you will have to register a new DataSource to the server using either Native or Vendor SQL.

Hope this sheds some light on your questions.
