System Copy (MSSQL Backup/Restore) - SWPM

Hi All,

Does SWPM System copy Option alter a SAP instance if it already exists? I wanted to know if it will install an instance 'over the top' of an existing one or whether it detects the instance and only performs database activities. There is no documentation I can find about this.

Hi Mark,

If you mean will it leave an existing kernel in place, yes, it will (but the tool still requires you to point it at a kernel source of some kind, even if it ultimately isn't used). However, the tool will overwrite the instance profile, so you need to make a backup copy of this before starting. It doesn't overwrite the default profile, however; that one it leaves alone.
