Is it possible for a GTL template to access a VBScript sub/func defined elsewhere in the extension?

I have a Global subroutine in an extension, which sets a number of options for DB generation. The extension also contains a number of GTL Templates, each of which needs to set the options, then output the subset of the SQL Preview that matches the options, wrapped in XML. I can embed VBScript within the template like this:

.vbscript

' commands go here

.endvbscript

What I really want to do is call the existing subroutine from inside the GTL, but I don't know how to reference it.

Perhaps I can use the .execute_vbscript macro to call it, but how do I reference it?

By the way, I can execute the script from an external file, but I don't want to be dependent on that mechanism if I can help it.
