Hi All,

i want to ask about BOM Usage,

what is the different and the impact by using BOM Usage Engineering instead of BOM Usage Production?

I always use BOM Usage Production where the impact is when i run the MRP, the BOM is exploded, but what is the impact by using BOM Usage Engineering ??

Thank you for the reply,

So, maybe i can conclude for Engineering BOM that the BOM will not be processed by MRP run ?

So, what kind of scenario cases that we have to use Engineering BOM?

And 1 more, there is Costing BOM in the BOM Usage selection, is that mean that if we choose the PRoduction BOM, then the BOM will not be costed? so we always have to use Costing BOM to do BOM Costing analysis?

Dear,

The impact of different usage is if you create a BOM with costing, then you can use it in production costing only. If you use Engineering as usage, then you can not use in production order, only for planning you can use i.e. MRP

Hi dear

Useage of BOM as Engineering and Production are different. As per the business process EBOM and PBOM might be different (e.g.sheet metal industry where different components are made from the sheets of different width in such case EBOM will only contain finish size but PBOM will contain the raw sizes to get the finish sizes).

Impact lies in MRP run. As per the settings in SPRO system will read either EBOM or PBOM for calculating the requirements i.e. PR,Planned Orders.

hi

its the SPRO setings for BOM usage "1" that it is relevant for production which is standard SAP.

That's why we use usage as "1" and first priority is also set for usage "1" in std SAP.

Hi Amit,

Yes you are right,

But my question is not about the priority, my problem is what is the impact if i use BOM Usage for Engineering ("2"), i dont know what is the impact by using that BOM Usage

Is there anybody who can help my problem?

Dear,

The Engineering/design BOM includes all the components of the product and their technical data from the design point of view. This BOM is generally not linked to any order.

The production BOM contains all the items required from the production and assembly point of view. Only items relevant to production, for which production data (such as the issue storage location) can be entered, are required. which get copied to order.

Please refer this link,

Hope clear to you.
