Custom index on MSEG table

hi, i created a custom index on MSEG table. upon activation, a dialog appears w/ the ff info:

Create Index MSEG(dialog title)

Index must be created on the database.

Processing type

(radio buttons)

Online

Background

Enter for mass processing (TBATG)

i'd like to know why i was prompted for this whereas from other tables (custom & standard) i wasn't prompted? also, what is the impact if i choose online or background?

regards,

rico

This is because there is data on the table already so the index needs to be built taking into account these existing entries.

Based upon the size of this table, I would choose "background processing" although this is a task BASIS should handle.

    Cheers

    Hello Rico

You could compare an index record to a database record.

I don't think you want to create 5000000 records online, but with only 500 records you don't care, so if you examin the number of records in MSEG I guess you will know the ansver to online or background.
