Hi Gurus,

Can you please confirm my doubt?

1. I am creating new system (Target system ) using Shell creation. Do i need to create Target system before i run shell process form Central system ? or I can start the shell process and give then do export , import in the steps.

2. As per my understanding from the guide,I take source system export then I will log in to OS level in to Target system and create CI ,DB i give import path. Now , my target system is up and i go for shell creation.

Am i correct ?

Regards

Suman.

Hi Suman,

Yes you have to create a tdms Shelcreation package within your central system.

This package will have two rfc connections : to the central and to teh Sender/source System.

On the Sender system you have to execute some manual steps (R3ldctl) to create a DDL<DBType>.TPL file that will be adapted by the TDMS activities to exclude most of the tabels from the R3Load dump.

So you need to execute some TDMS steps to have a proper Shell.

If you are not doing it that way you will have a normal full dump of the Sender System.

Ideally your Shell should be copy of Sender system so that the Repository is same for sender/receiver systems.

Hi Suman,

Shellcreation is nothing more and less like any other SAP Homogenous Systemcopy using R3Load.

So normally you do the Targetsystemcreation during the import of the Systemcopy.

The difference is that there are some additional TDMS steps before and after the export that will ensure that you will only export the clientindependent data and will provide a smaller DB size on the Target system.

So all steps that you have to do during a SAP Systemcopy need to be taken. Preprocessing + Postprocessing!

Thanks for the quick response,

Here is my understanding on Shell creation,

1. I will take export of Source system data in a dump file using R3 load.

2. I log in to new Target system at OS level and start the R3inst process and install Central Instance & Database Instance , i will give the path exported dump from Source system

and finish the process. then i will up the new system.

So, my question is, do i need to log in to Central (Solman)system before the 1st step as mentioned and do the steps accordignly.

Kindly let me know your valuable inputs.

Thanks in Advance
