Data Entry via Web Front End Directly into BW

Dear all,

we are looking into several possibilities to maintain data within BW using a Web Front End. SEM-BPS is not an option, we are looking for solutions to either directly enter data (e.g.. into a specific ODS) or to extract the data into an Oracle DB, modify the data there and write it back to BW.

Is there any documentation out there for issues like these (White Papers etc). Does anyone of you have any experience with a scenario like that and can tell me something about the advantages and disadvantages of either solution? This especially regarding performance, stability, and implementation effort.

Thanks in advance, best regards,

Katrin

    Hi Katrin,

according to me it should be hard to find a WhitePaper about that ... the standard way should is with BPS.

However you can consider the option of sending XML DAta to BW ... it works on a push principle: see Doc "How to… Send XML Data to BW" on service.sap.com/bw.

Don't know anybody that has tried to but you could consider the possibility to use APIs to write in a ODS: the cost is the development of an application dedicated to this (See: RSDRI_ODSO_DELETE_RFC, SDRI_ODSO_INSERT_RFC, RSDRI_ODSO_MODIFY_RFC, RSDRI_ODSO_UPDATE_RFC)

    Hope it helps

    Hi Katrin,

just one thing: From BW 3.5 on, the BPS framework is delivered as part of BW and not anymore as part of the SEM add-on. BPS comes with a tool to create flexible web UIs for manual data entry into infocubes.

    Hi There,

there is no "official way" to store data into BW-Objects (e.g. transactional cubes) except SEM BPS.

One solution would be to enable queries to accept data input directly. (Web only)

This has been implemented recently and is working properly. A SAP release for such a functionality is expected for Apollo 7.0 (BW 4.0).

    Regards
