SAP Mentor?

Hello everyone,

I'm not new to SAP but I am new to SAP consulting. My question is how does one hook up with a mentor? At this point, I don't have any technical questions but rather general questions about the consulting path? If I'm posting this question in the wrong area, I apologize.

Such a holistic question which is generally specific to a handfull of folks can only mean one thing. Tell us what happened?

Cheers,

Julius

Hi Julius,

Up until last month, when I was laid off, I was a full-time permanent employee with a large pharmaceutical company. I was in the Controlling area with main responsibility for product costing. Given my work skills and experience (10yrs SAP), and stage in my career (52 yrs old), a career in consulting would be the best fit for me. Thus the interest in talking to someone with experience in this area and willing to provide some advice.

There is a lot of information available here on SCN, I suggest you search for and read blogs by Jon Reed and Otto Gold, to get you started. As it happens, both are SAP Mentors, however it is not mandatory to be one in order to be able to give consulting career advice.

Or you can get Otto Gold directly into your thread:))

I am ready to talk/ help. Seems like your story is very close to my dad´s - be it the age or the past experience. The only change here is his domain is/ was among others SAP HR/ HCM.

I don´t know where to start with the story, so let´s start with your questions. If you can ask some. With your life experience and the way of thinking you had to think about it up and down and so you for sure have questions to ask.

What are the first few steps you want to take? Start reading? Applying for a new job? Find clients?

I will follow the thread so I will get a notification about the discussion going on here, so you can express you ideas, feelings, questions here. I have no problem talking through email, but in that case no more people could benefit from the dicussion.

Cheer up, this always helps to change one´s live and let´s do this:))

Have a nice day and looking forward to the talk,

cheers Otto

Steve,

I know of someone who might be able to offer you some advice in your area of SAP expertise. Let's just say they are someone who I know closely who has a background in SAP and product costing.

I'm going to violate a few rules here, but if you don't mind contacting me directly via my business card details, we can discuss further whether the person I know might be a good fit.

How I found this thread is completely another story, but you can thank Otto for using a "weird" userid in the coffee corner.

Take care,

Stephen
