hello, can someone tell me how bw is connected to ECC? like how does data pass through these 2 systems? like ale? IDOC? or something else? thanks.
From RSA1->Source System-->Right click -->Create
This are the steps to create connection to ECC, During connection set up , you need to provide background users id /password in both the systems. You also need to specify Logical system name, system number etc during connection creation. Once you provide that system will generate RFC connection between BW and ECC. For first the creation you will require a dialog id in ECC system also.
When you run Info-Package from BW, it triggers a job in ECC system in background and fetch the data. Then this data is sent to BW via IDoc through the RFC connection.
Hope this along with Murali's explanation helps.

Hi,
Systems are connected through RFC in transaction SM59.
Data is sent by ECC as IDocs. The IDocs are grouped into packets.
There are different types of IDocs sent by BW and ECC. When you trigger a load and request IDoc is sent by BW to ECC. When it is received, ECC sends a confirmation IDoc to BW. Then data selection happens in ECC and data will be sent as packets (each packet has certain no. of IDocs). After 10 packets (default set by SAP), ECC sends an information IDoc which updates our monitor screen with the number of idocs/packets/records sent to BW.
