hi
One of our ABAPer's made a change in SAP application & transported the changes to PRD
Now payroll cannot run. Is it possible to restore the application to its original state from backup ?

What changes your ABAPer has done? you can find from the transport, please transport the old version (correct) from you development system through your landscape. You ABAPer should know all this.
Going for backup/restore option is not good in this stage as you have transported the changes and the transported changed can be reverted back sending corrected transport. As there should not be any data loss, just some program or config went to prod due to this you are not able to run payroll.

Hi!
Sunil have the best solution I think.
If You need to restore from backup, it is possible. (Been there - done that) But You need to restore and recover PRD to just before the transport was inplemented. This will give you dataloss from that time. So if you can avoid to restore the database, use the other solution.

Hi,
Sunil, Audun, and Nick is proposing the right way. All you need is to ask your ABAP-er to find the old version of its program and transported again.
Just hope it worked. Since sometimes user exit doesn't provide backward versioning.
I have this experience before.

The best option to get older version is mentioned above. This is the the concept of VERSION MANAGEMENT in SAP.
Ask ABAPer to findout the older version and get it transported to PRO, And do not think about backup restore for all times.
