Wondering if anyone else having an Excel 2010 inplace issue not showing the File ("Backstage") tab to allow Save or Save As operations? Noticed others searched SAP xSearch help with similar Excel 2010 search terms but nothing relevant returned...
We're on ERP 6.04, NW 7.01sp5, SAPGUI 7.20sp2 with Excel 2010 running on XP sp3.
Thanks in advance (and full points) for any resolution ideas or issue confirmations before opening an OSS ticket 😆
This sounds a bit like
Note 1498727 - OI:Powerpoint document doesn't display menu in inplace mode
Before doing anything else I'd upgrade your SAPGUI to the latest patchlevel (which is 4) and then try again. If the problem is still there you won't get around an OSS call.

Hello Guys,
i have a smiliar problem with Excel 2010.
When i click the "File" - Button the whole (inplace) Excel terminated and a white screen appears.
Had anyone such problems?
Best Regards

Patrick,
In response to your Excel 2010 issue above our users have not had similar "crash" issues at all in the SAP technical environment I originally posted above. If you have the same EHP4 and SAPGUI 7.20 as we and have that issue I'd check your Excel installation again before opening a ticket with SAP.

Is the "File"-Button now working in your environment or not?
(We don't use SAPGui 7.10 and EHP ... but we will upgrade in a few month)
Note 1408098 looks like there is no solution for the crash-issue, right?
The only solution/workaround is to put the icons into the quickmenu-bar.

Patrick
Patrick,
To clarify the File ("Backstage") tab is still not shown or enabled for us when running Excel 2010 on SAPGUI 7.20sp2 with XP sp3. That is why we had each user affected go into Excel 2010 outside of SAP and add the "Save As" icon to Quick Access launch as described in SAP Note 1408098 for future inplace use so they have a simple way to save their inplace work.
This inplace Excel workaround works fine (without crashing) in our 7.20sp2 environment as users simply do their tcode Excel display and then use the added "Save As" to take the work offline and finish it there.
Hope this helps 😆

Hello,
In SAPGui 7.10 the "File" - Button is activ, i think this is a bug of 7.10.
In version 7.20 the "File" - Button is invisible - nobody can click it.

Why do you need to open Excel OUTSIDE of SAP? Can you access to the "Quick Access Menu" inside of SAP, to add more Icons?

Yes it likely works within SAP inplace to add the "Save As" icon to Quick Acces as well- but we didn't test that or write up the end user FAQ instructions that way. As the "Save As" add only needs to be done 1 time in Excel we asked affected users to launch Excel from their desktop, add the "Save As" icon, close Excel to ensure simple compliance. If you'd rather have your users do it in SAP inplace certainly do that if it works in your environment 😆
Thanks for the informations.
On my local SAPGui 7.20, i can't add more icons to the quick-menu because everything is deactiviated. I don't know why
With SAPGui 7.10 i can open the option-menu ... but can't any icons (list is empty).
Our Users are staring SAPGui with Citrix on a terminalserver -> therefore they can't open Excel on this terminalserver to add this icon.
I think our solution will be, to add the icons with "logonscripts" on our terminalserver. This will be the easiest way.
I had checked the SAPGUI 7.20 deltas between patch 2 and 4 and didn't see any explicit reference to fix this issue so I thought I'd post just to see if anyone else had experienced the same issue.
A simple workaround working for us is to "Customize the Quick Access Toolbar" in Excel 2010 itself from the File (Backstage) menu. We added the "Save As" icon which carried forward in SAPGUI Excel inplace and now users can at least choose where to save their work as needed.
Thank you for your post Markus- Full points awarded for your Note reference and timely response 😆
